The All Progressives Congress caucus in the House of Representatives said on Wednesday that it was talking with aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party to join its folds.
The caucus described the PDP members as “progressives” who shared the same ideas and principles with the APC.
The Deputy House Minority Whip, Garba Dhatti, who disclosed this in Abuja, claimed that one of the meetings with the New PDP representatives took place on Wednesday morning.
“We have been meeting and discussing with them. In fact, they were the ones seeking to join us.
“Therefore, we have said that our doors are open to all progressively-minded people to join us in the task of building this country,” Dhatti stated.
Members of the caucus had met for about one hour on Wednesday to strategise on how to implement the APC’s “agenda of change” for the nation.
The Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, who presided over the meeting, told journalists that the party’s agenda include fight against corruption and provision of basic infrastructure for the country.
He also said that the party would pursue true federalism and eliminate poverty.
Gbajabiamila added, “To this end, we want to invite our colleagues in the House who found their way into the PDP through craft or deception, but who in their hearts are progressives in inclination and bent, and there are many of them, to join hands with us in pursuing our agenda of change and hope of saving Nigeria.”
The caucus said that it saw the “hand of God” in the crisis rocking the PDP as an opportunity for the APC to rescue Nigeria.
He spoke further, “This is our time, this is our moment. Let us seize it. There is much work to be done but the labourers are few.
“All hands must be on deck at this critical moment in our nation’s history.
“We must be watchful and vigilant. We must pray. We must fight a good fight believing that the end of this dark tunnel we have been plunged into is luminous.”
