The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved N311,850,00.00, for the procurement of 30, 33-seater Innoson buses as welfare package for federal civil servants in Federal Capital Territory.
Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, in company with the Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and the Head of Service of the Federation, Bukar Goni Aji, said the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, gave the approval following the adoption of a previous conclusion, where the president tabled a memorandum to seek council’s ratification of his anticipatory approval for the procurement of 30 air conditioned Innoson buses, by the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
He said the choice of Innoson buses was in compliance with the directive of the council at its January 20, 2010 meeting that locally assembled vehicles be patronized instead of foreign ones.
The Head of Service said the procurement of the buses would serve as a welfare package for civil servants and as palliative for transportation difficulties being experienced by teeming civil servants living in satellite towns within the FCT as well as increased productivity and raise staff morale for service delivery.
He said in view of the priority placed on service delivery at institutional and individual levels in the public service by the administration and the enormous benefits of the scheme on the lives of the beneficiaries, council ratified the president’s anticipatory approval for the procurement of the buses with delivery period of 10 months.
