The Nigerian labour congress, NLC, has started another warning move to the president, before joining the five old months strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) , this time, they made it clear to the president that thier intervention might not be funny this time, if the president, refuses to settle with ASSU, As The Acting General Secretary of the congress, Chris Uyot, made it clear to the media of their actions to come, when he spoke with the Nigerian news agency saying;
“The leadership of NLC has written a letter to the Presidency seeking leave to intervene in the crisis which is now in its sixth month.
“We have sent a letter to the presidency today, December 9. We want to intervene in this matter.
“The turn of events is causing a lot of disaffection which can easily be resolved, that is if the government is willing to talk about it,”
He also said that;
" NLC President, Abdulwahed Omar, met with the leadership of ASUU in Abuja as a preliminary step to articulate their position before meeting with the presidency when invited".
Previously, The NLC and the TUC, has led ASUU to the president on 4th of November, in a meeting which lasted for 13hours, where the increased funding to universities beginning from a N200 billion intervention fund in 2013 agreement was reached, this time, we pray, both the NLC and The TUC intervenes for good to set the Acedemic system back on its rail again.
