AN OLD MAN PLANNED WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND TO KIDNAP HIS 9-YEAR OLD SON, WHILE WIFE SUFFERS WITH STROKE.
Yesterday in Lagos, A 48-year-old man, at the Lagos State command of the Department of State Services, DSS, revealed how he planned with his girlfriend, to kidnap his 9-year old son, in badagry area of Lagos, so that the church will pay them for big fat Ransome money.
The suspect Adeyinka Adebayo, who admitted to have connived with his 28-year-old girlfriend, Kehinde Alonge, said he committed the act to get money from his church members, also he added,
My girlfriend said she needed money to open her own hair dressing saloon. Since I was not financially buoyant, I decided to raise money by masterminding my son’s kidnap.
“I am a vulcanizer and business had not been booming. Anyone I approached for money usually declined to assist me.
“To get money from my church members in particular, I had to mastermind my son’s kidnap.
“He spent nine days at my girlfriend’s house. At the end of the day, I was able to raise N450,000 from my church members and friends, who earlier refused to help me.
At first, when they were caught, the man lied it was his girlfriend that carried out the plan without him knowing, so
THE LADY GAVE HER OWN SIDE OF THE STORY saying;
“he is lying. I was in Ilesha when he called me to come to Lagos that some people owed him money.
“He said the only way to collect the money from them was for me to come and take his son away, while he pretends that he had been kidnapped.
“I came to Lagos on October 4. I intended going to the school to pick the boy, but Adebayo advised I picked him from the house.
“Since the children knew me, I told the boy to follow me to get something outside and entered the next available vehicle to Ilesha, Osun State. His father even gave me N3,000 for transport.
“When we got to Ilesha, he sent another N3,750 worth of recharge cards for his feeding. He even called his son on phone daily. He was the one that asked me to demand N350,000.
“However, at the end of the bargain, he said I should accept N200,000. Since I had no bank account, I asked one of my relatives to give me his account details. But we were arrested at the point of withdrawal.”
“I beg to be forgiven. It was the handiwork of the devil.”
“I regret my action because my son may never forgive me if he is told. I feel ashamed also because his mother has been down with stroke, though we are no longer married.
We know this is not good for people to decline helping others, but no be for girl friend matters , WHERE YOUR WIFE DEY UNDER STROKE na wah o! Old man way like better thing!

BOKO HARAM OUTSMART AND KILLED 35 SOLDIERS IN YOBE STATE
The yobe state governor Ibrahim geidam, complaining bitterly yesterday how boko haram outsmart and killed 35 soldiers , and he also added that
“It appears to me that the security operatives, the police and the army and every other security personnel, were taken unawares. I have been taken round and based on what I have observed, we don’t have enough intelligence all over the state to give information. If our security operatives were on 24 hours alert, some of these things would have been averted and these boys would not just come to the town and start shooting.
“I have also observed that some of the weapons used by the insurgents are superior weapons in capacity, which are much higher than the ones obtained by the military or the police in Yobe State.
“I wish to call on the Federal Government to prevail on the Defence Headquarters to ensure that they provide high profile capacity weapons to the army, if this insurgency is to be averted or stopped.
“The military, the police and other security men in Damaturu only have AK 47 rifles. Maybe a few high profile weapons are there with the military. We need more of trained personnel on ground and more equipment to fight the insurgents.
“The Federal Government is interested in seeing the end of the insurgency but if the type of weapons used by the military and police in this place does not change, I think the chances of defeating this insurgency is very remote. They must be provided with high-profile weapons.”
The governor added: “How can you have a smaller weapon and somebody has a rocket launcher that can destroy a building, let alone a human being. If the Federal government provides the required weapons for the security agencies, the problem will be over within weeks.”
And sometimes, the book haram insurgents, usually comes disguising as army officers.

POLICE ATTACKS AND COMPLETELY RAIDS MASSOB OFFICE IN EBONYI STATE
Police in Ebonyi State have raided the office of Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and carted away some items in the office. It was gathered that mobile policemen in three Hilux vans stormed the regional office of MASSOB at No. 9, Hatchery Road in Abakaliki at about noon at the weekend. No arrest was made because there was nobody in the office at the time of the raid.
as reported by the SUN NEWSPAPER
The Abakaliki Regional Administrator of MASSOB, Mr. Osita Obiajulu, told Daily Sun that policemen invaded their office when they were not in the office and allegedly made away with N170, 000 they kept in the table locker, and removed their signpost and flag. He said the mobile policemen came looking for mebers of the MOSSOB and when they realized that their targets were not around they broke into the office through the window.
“We are calling on President Goodluck Jonathan and inspector general of police to intervene in the matter and urge them to return our items they took from our office including money. We are a peaceful group, we have not attacked or harassed anybody since we started this movement. We have constitutional right to belong to any association, we don’t have gun, we don’t have knife but every time, police keep arresting, intimidating and molesting our members. Police want to push us to the wall, we are peaceful and we will remain peaceful but police should stop harassing MASSOB members,” he stated.
But in a swift reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a deputy superintendent (DSP), who confirmed the incident, denied collection of money from the office of MASSOB by the police as alleged by the MASSOB members.Igbo stated that members of MASSOB ran away when police came to arrest them for hoisting Biafran flag, an act of treason, which according to him, was a threat to the law abiding citizens of the state.
However, the Director of Information of MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu, condemned the attack on the office of MASSOB in Abakaliki, saying the activities, operations and existence for the past 14 years were purely on non-violence and does not amount to any threat to the society.
MORE THAN 100 MEMBERS OF THE APPOSITIONAL PARTIES JUMPED INTO PDP IN BAYELSA
Over 100 members of three political parties namely, Justice Party (JP), Change Advocacy Party (CAP) and National Conscience Party (NCP) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State.
On receiving them at PDP interactive session, Governor Seriake Dickson urged them to be loyal and work towards achieving success for the party at all levels.
Describing the politics of his administration as all inclusive, consultative and collaborative, Dickson said the defectors joined the party at the right time as the days of needless media wars were gone, we are now one.
He also added that ,“When you have all these elders in the state and you combine their experiences and advice, you will always succeed.
“It is when you get into a position of authority and you raise your shoulders and you say like the foolish man in the Bible that you have arrived and there is no tomorrow; that to me is the beginning of failure.
“And that is why I always commend the support and prayers that I continue to receive from a broad spectrum of the leadership of this state and beyond.”
“Bayelsans know that the PDP means well and they know that when we talk of restoration, we mean it. And before their very eyes in less than two years, the state is changing. For us in the PDP, what we tell the people is that this is just the beginning; you are going to see more things.,” he said. Commenting on recent developments at the state and national levels, Governor Dickson stressed that there was nothing like the new PDP in the state as the law court had also adjudicated on the matter.
He, however, cautioned members of the party against any division between those at the state and national levels and shun any act that could tarnish the image of the people and commended the support they had shown for the President.
GOVERNOR AMEACHI HAS BEEN REDUCED TO NOTHING IN RIVER STATE- NWIKE, OBUA.
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of the River state, has been bundled into a moving van by the Obua led PDP and Nyesom wike, as they released a statement yesterday during the inuaguration of executives and ward officials of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area chapter of GDI, held in Port Harcourt.
In his address, Wike stated that Governor Amaechi had become a complainant by appearing before the Human Rights Commission. He said further that if not for the doggedness of the group, nobody could challenge the governor, adding that before, Amaechi could easily order a Commissioner of Police to arrest somebody and charge him for cultism, but that has stopped.
“In fact, if for nothing, they have succeeded for the first time in the history of this country, where you have pushed a governor to now become a complainant in the Human Rights Commission.
“If for nothing, the governor has now turned to a complainant; the governor, would tell a Commissioner of Police to arrest and charge people for cultism. He is, today, complaining to Human Rights Commission.
“If for nothing, he should go home and ask God ‘is it how this world is? That, because of the challenge we are giving to them now, they are now calling everybody and giving fictitious names.
“If not for what you are doing, nobody would talk to anybody; nobody would even know anybody is there. They turned themselves to demi-gods. Today, power has returned to the people and you have the power,” Wike declared.
The supervising Education Minister pointed out the the clamour for the withdrawal from the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, was because he failed to take order from them.

USA IN DEEP SHIT AS ALLIES LOSES TRUST IN THEM FOR SPYING.
The famous German news paper Der Spiegel has revealed that the UNITED STATE OF AMERICA has been spying on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's mobile phone since 2002, from this embassy in Germany.
Another report says Mr Obama was told in 2010 about the surveillance and failed to stop the NSA, from carrying out such criminal act in another soil.
The spy row has led to the worst diplomatic crisis between the two countries in living memory, causing pain and agony to the Germans, not to talk of how inferior it paints German security agents in their own country.
Leaked documents say a US listening unit was based in its Berlin embassy - and similar operations were replicated in 80 locations around the world.
The German interior minister has been quoted as saying such an operation, if confirmed, would be illegal and a shame for the UNITED STATES. This must have been the reason why the Islamic countries, never trusted anybody from the US or may be it is just a Natural hatred, who knows.
On Friday, Germany and France said they wanted the US to sign a no-spy deal by the end of the year.
As well as the bugging of Mrs Merkel's phone, there are claims the NSA has monitored millions of telephone calls made by German and French citizens.
We pray such acts never continue, if it does, some nations might start using it negatively against the weak ones.
2 HOT CELLEBRATES WITH HIS GRADUATING WIFE
WIFE STABED HUSBAND TO DEATH BECAUSE OF MOTHER IN LAW
The crisis started when a mother in law decided to call his son for her medical check up in akure where his son resides, but the wife, never wanted that, and the Mather got out of hand, which led to the fight, between the man and his wife.
The housewife and mother of two, Ebere Ogu stabbed her husband, Chinedu Patrick Ogu, 31, in the stomach during a squabble, which broke out over the proposed visit of the husband’s mother from the village.
The wife, it was learnt, had kicked against her husband’s move to invite his mother to Akure from his village in Imo State. The husband too was said to have insisted that his mother must be in Akure for medical treatment.
It was gathered that co-tenants had been used to the couple’s frequent fights, but Monday’s turned fatal, claiming a life.
Ebere, it was further gathered, abandoned her bleeding husband and ran away with her two kids to an unknown destination after stabbing him in the stomach, leaving the knife stuck in his stomach.
A CAUGHT BOKOHARAM MEMBER TELLS ALL THE SECRET OF THE GROUP INCLUDING HOW THEY KILL FOR MONEY.
A suspected member of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, has rubbished the group and its activities as un-Islamic, especially the resort to armed banditry, looting and murder of innocent people.
THE NATIONA NEWSPAPER
Bukar Modu, who was paraded yesterday in Maiduguri, also said extremists from neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroun are working for the group to undermine Nigeria’s security.
Modu, 22, according to security agents, was arrested on October 6 in the heat of the sect’s early morning attack on Muslim worshippers in Damboa, Borno state.
He said religion has little to do with the Boko Haram insurgency and his leaders “had never once preached Islam to us.”
He said the name of Allah was invoked only when “we are running out of food supply in the bush. Our leaders will assemble us and declare that we would be embarking on a mission for God and Islam.
“I did not see any act of religion in there. We are just killing people, stealing and suffering in the bush,” he added.
The sect has been blamed for the killings of hundreds of civilians, mainly Muslims, in recent months.
He said of the operation that led to his capture: “We went on a mission to attack people in Damboa on Oct. 6, a few days to the last Sallah celebration.
“We shot many people but I was also shot in the leg during the operation; I later became unconscious.
`My people took me away at the end of the operation but they decided to dump me in a nearby bush because they thought I was dead.
“I regained consciousness in the morning before I was apprehended by security agents, who provided food for me and took care of my bullet wounds,” he said.
Modu said that he was recruited into the sect about a year ago by his cousin who “used to keep his gun in our compound in Maiduguri.”
He added: “One day, he said that he was not comfortable with me being outside the sect because I knew all his secrets.
“He gave me two options: to either join the sect or be killed. So, I had no other option than to join the sect.”
Modu said that he was given an “express training” on the handling of AK 47 rifle as soon as he joined the sect and “We were always given orders to attack individuals without questioning until we finally relocated to Marte in Marte Local Government Area of Borno during the middle of this year.
Modu said that his group comprised about 150 militants, who took refuge in a nearby bush after the military invasion of Marte camp.
“We were kept in the bush by our commanders; sometimes, we survived on filthy water because we did not have access to safe water and we barely had something to eat.”
Modu said that many of the “foot soldiers” of the Boko Haram sect who wanted to abscond could not do so because of the fear of being caught and executed.
“Our commanders usually conduct roll-calls on a daily basis to prevent anyone from running away; once you are caught, the penalty is death,” he said.
Modu said that many “foot soldiers”, who tried to escape at the camp, were summarily executed.
“Any time we carry out an attack in a place, we steal food, drugs, money and everything we need.
“Sometimes, I feel guilty of committing crimes against God but our commanders always tell us that it is God’s work that we are doing.
“It is a terrible thing to be a member of the sect but many foot soldiers like me cannot leave for fear of being killed.”
His statement on the involvement of Chadian, Nigerien and Camerounian extremists in the Boko Haram uprising tallies with reports from politicians and survivors of attacks, underlining threat to the country’s unity.
Justice Minister Mohammed Adoke said last week that Boko Haram is being influenced from abroad.
“Nigeria is experiencing the impact of externally-induced internal security challenges, manifesting in the activities of militant insurgents and organised crime groups which has led to the violation of the human rights of many Nigerians,” he said while defending the country’s record at a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Modu, walking on crutches because of a bullet wound suffered when he was captured in a recent attack, said he was forced to join Boko Haram but that the movement has many willing and educated members.
He said:”We have qualified doctors who are active members. They were not forced to be in the group, they are more elderly than us.
“We have mechanics, we have welders, we have carpenters, we have professional drivers, we have butchers, security experts, gun instructors and so on,” he said, displaying his lack of education by his poor use of the Hausa language.
The prisoner, who wore military fatigue trousers similar to those of his captors – many recent Boko Haram attacks have been perpetrated by fighters wearing Nigerian army uniforms – said foreigners fight in his group of 150 but did not say how many.
“We have no members from Mali or Libya that I know of. But we do have members from Chad, Niger and Cameroon who actively participate in most of our attacks.”
He said he and many other fighters would like to surrender but are scared to do so.
“Each time they declare an attack, I feel sick and terrified, so were most of my younger colleagues but we dare not resist our leaders: They are deadly, our punishment for betrayal is slaughtering of our necks.”
According to him, Boko Haram had moved on from targeting security forces and politicians to attacks on soft targets such as students, villagers and travelers because of the formation of vigilante groups “who now reveal our identities and even arrest us.”
The Nigerian Army last Friday said its men killed 95 members of the sect in two separate operations in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital and two villages near Maiduguri on Thursday.
74 were killed in the first operation, an air and ground assault on training camps of the sect in Borno while the remaining 21 were killed when suspected fighters of the sect invaded Damaturu.
EMEKA IKE, 2FACE, CELLESTINE BABAYARO AND OTHER NAIJA FANS RALLIES FOR PEACE AND TOGETHERNESS IN NIGERIA
Nigerian celebrities, planned to stage a concerts, rallies and other means of support, to support the president, as his regime has been filled with all sorts of attack, from all corners of the oppositional parties, and even the current crisis, rocking the PDP, so as to keep them in focus, to orderly govern the nation.
TheNollywood stars whose delegation met yesterday in Abuja with the National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) ,Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to work out the modalities.
The project is planned to include ‘peace’ rallies and concerts in the six geo-political zones, according to leader of the delegation, Emeka Ike.
It is expected to be in collaboration with celebrities in the music industry and Nigerian footballers.as reported by THE NATION NEWSPAPER
The organisers said the rallies would be geared toward addressing the drifting socio-political situation in the country.
Emeka Ike told the party chairman that the stars would mobilise Nigerian youths on the need for togetherness and peaceful coexistence in the country, most especially at the grassroots.
The artists said the planned rallies would also focus on the need for the PDP to resolve its internal crises so that the ruling party could focus on governance in the interest of the Nigerian people.
According to them, a module has been developed for infusing the culture of responsiveness and national interest in political office holders in the land.
The event, they added, would also feature renowned footballers like Celestine Babayaro and music stars like 2-Face Idibia.
The rallies will be preceded by a press conference in Abuja on Monday followed by mobilisation of Nollywood and football stars to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, which has been the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Ike said: “We would round off by mobilising the Nigerian youths, including Nollywood, football and music stars in our country to Maiduguri to campaign for peace”.
Tukur expressed delight in the move by the stars to champion the cause of peace and national reconciliation in the country and urged other Nigerian youths to join the train.
The party chairman said he was of the conviction that the stars could repackage Nigeria for a better image, stressing that the country was in dire need of such packaging at this point in history.
He encouraged the stars to embark on the planned rally and promised to lend the required inspiration towards the success of the rally.
“I am aware that you people have conquered Africa because your movies are being watched across Africa and the rest of the world. “Today, I want to encourage you to take ownership of your successes and move over to be global citizens,”the chairman said.
A pro-government rally took place on October 6 at the Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna to solicit support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s alleged bid to contest the 2015 election.
However, the gathering tagged Northern Youth Rally ended in chaos after the participants began demanding their “share of the money,” the organisers allegedly collected from the presidency.
Security operatives took away an official of the Northern Youth Forum (NYF) from the venue to prevent him from being lynched by the angry youths who threw sand, stones and sachet water at him.
The youths shouted: “Give us our own share, give us our own share.”
On August 25, the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, locked down the Federal Capital Territory metropolis with what she described as a mass rally and carnival organised to take “stock of the gains recorded so far in the empowerment of Nigerian women and the quest for peace in the country”.
The rally was the brain child of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) in collaboration with the office of the First Lady of the Federation.
The programme was organised as part of the ongoing underground campaign for President Jonathan’s 2015 presidential ambition.
The women wore dresses with pictures of President Jonathan .

TANKER EXPLOSION AT IGABI L.G A OF KADUNA STATE
THE NIGERIAN BORN AMERICAN FAMOUS RAPER WALE , FLIES NAIJA COLOUR WITH PRIDE ON INSTAGRAM
NIGERIA LIKELY TO SPLIT AS NORTHERN ELDERS ARE PROMOTING CHOAS BEFORE THE ELECTION
“There is no going back on the presidency returning to the North in 2015, and that has remained our position,” he told The Nation on the outcome of the last weekend meeting of the Northern Elders Forum.
Professor Abdullahi accused the President of playing politics with the proposed national conference.
“As far as we are concerned, all this talk about national conference is political and geared towards 2015. It is also becoming clear that the only card on the table of Mr. President is ethnicity or religion. We are waiting to see how this will work in his favour,” he said.
But he explained that the North is not in any way against the conference.
His words: “The Northern Elders’ Forum met last weekend and we generally agreed with the direction of the North on the National Conference. And we said why not? The point we tried to make is what kind of conference?
“This is because we have had all sorts of conferences in the past from 1914 to date. All the reports of these conferences are there in the Government House. The Northern Elders’ Forum wondered what kind of conversation, dialogue, or conference that would be different from the ones we have had before.
“We agreed that the only thing that will make the proposed conference significantly different is when it is sovereign. What needs to be done is to suspend the current 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly to pave the way for a peoples’ conference. The National Assembly should vacate itself to enable the sovereign conference to take place.
“I am particularly surprised that those who have always wanted a sovereign conference are now backing out and for whatever reason, I cannot say. While the Northern Elders’ Forum may be at home with the proposed conference, as we have always maintained that we are ready for any kind of conference, I still maintain that we either have a sovereign conference or nothing else. Without that, we had better manage the system as it is. Otherwise, the proposed conference will be a mere talk shop and a jamboree.”
RETIRED SOLDIER BEATS DAUGTER TO DEATH.
Unless by divine intervention, John Udin, a retired soldier may likely spend the rest of his life in jail if he doesn’t go to the gallows for clubbing his 14- year old daughter, Glory to death. John 72, from Jesse, Warri in Delta State was discharged from the Nigeria Army in 1999 as a corporal. He has 11 children from three wives. Two of the wives and seven children are in Jesse, while he resides at 28 Adewale Street, Iba New Site, Ojo, Lagos with the youngest wife, Comfort and four children in a two-room apartment.
Last Tuesday, what started as minor family quarrel turned fatal. On that fateful evening, while Comfort, Glory and the three other children were preparing for evening church service, it was alleged that John came to the front of their compound and sat down. As his family members wanted to leave for church, it was further alleged that he blocked the entrance and said they won’t go because they lack the character of good Christians.
According to John, his daughter Glory, a secondary school student didn’t have an iota of respect for him. “Whenever I tried to counsel or advise her as a beloved father, she would make ignoble and despicable signs to show an extreme disdain and contempt she has for me. These are the things she copied from her mother.
“Some times she would go to another family’s house to sleep or she did something not of good report, when I tried to caution her, she would talk to me or demonstrate with a sign that shows an utter contempt.”
As John prevented them from going to church, he accused Glory of making the same derogatory sign to show her contempt for him. This was said to have provoked the ex-soldier who dragged Glory to their bedroom where he allegedly beat her with a nail-studded plank.
According to Comfort, her husband didn’t allow their daughter any medical assistance.
“I went and called a nurse who came and started treating her. When she was not improving, my husband took her to a hospital where she died” Comfort said.
Glory died last Sunday five days after the incident.
Speaking to Saturday Sun, John in a sober mood, wondered why he should kill his own daughter and heaped the blame on Satan.
“I am not crazy to give birth to a child and at the same time kill the child. I don’t have mother or father, my children are everything to me. So why should I kill her? My intention was to hit the plank on her back for her just to receive the pain and nothing more but it landed on her forehead.
“When my wife went and reported the matter at the police station, I didn’t wait for the police to come and arrest me. I went to the police and submitted myself to them. That will show that I didn’t have the intention of killing my dear daughter. If I meant to kill her as my wife is accusing me of, I would probably run away or went into hiding.”
On what that type of dangerous weapon was doing in his bedroom, John said that he is a security man and that was one of his tools to defend himself and attack robbers. He accused his wife of encouraging Glory the way she was misbehaving.
His wife, who by her name, should be providing comfort for him is now calling for the full weight of the law to be visited on him.
“He deliberately killed my daughter and so he should also be killed the same way”, she declared. On how he met Comfort, John said that Comfort’s father though late was his friend and also a retired soldier.
According to him, after his disengagement from the military, he took his two wives and seven children to his village, Jesse. After staying at home for a while, he said life at the village didn’t suit him and so opted to come back to Lagos, but his wives and children said they were not going with him and preferred to stay in the village.
“ It was when I came to Lagos and started visiting Comfort’s father, my friend by then he was still around and I started going closer to Comfort and one thing led to another and she became pregnant.
NOBODY KNOSW PEOPLE STILL LOVES TO EAT IBORI'S MONEY
The Delta State Government failed yesterday in its bid to take custody of the $15m allegedly offered as bribe by its jailed former governor, James Ibori, to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
THE NATION NEWSPAPER
A Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja yesterday ordered that the money, estimated at N4.6 billion, be forfeited to the Federal Government, to be deployed to meet the need of the majority of the citizens.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole in a judgment yesterday held that the earlier denial by Ibori that he owned the money, and the failure of Delta State to prove that the fund was removed from its treasury, qualifies the money as an “unclaimed property.”
The judge further held that in view of the circumstances surrounding the case, where people were reluctant to openly claim its ownership, the money qualifies to be forfeited to the Federal Government “as fund derived from unlawful act,” as stipulated under the Money Laundering and EFCC Acts 2004.
The judge wondered why no one laid claim to the money between April 25 and 26, 2007 when EFCC claimed the money was offered its officials by Ibori and July 27, 2012 when the FG advertised in a national daily that the fund was to be forfeited.
Justice Kolawole, who dubbed the case “the unclaimed $15m scandal,” wondered why the Delta State Government waited until a July 27 advertorial published by the FG before it woke up to claim ownership of the money.
The EFCC had in April 2007 accused Ibori of offering its then Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, and some others the $15 million bride to prevent his investigation.
EFCC’s current Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, was said to have retrieved the bribe money (brought by an unnamed Ibori’s aide in a huge bag in cash) from the home of former aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Andy Ubah.
The money was lodged in an account at the Central Bank (CBN) and was to be tendered as exhibit at the trial of Ibori before Justice Marcel Awokulehin of the FHC, Asaba.
The court on December 17, 2009 quashed the charges against Ibori, a decision the EFCC appealed on December 31, 2009.
In July 2012, the FG applied to the court for an order of forfeiture and to direct the CBN to release it to the government should no one show up to claim the money after its publication of an advertorial to that effect.
Shortly after the advertorial was published, Delta State intervened, claiming ownership of the money.
It contended that Ibori, being its governor when the bribe money was offered, must have taken the money from the state’s coffers.
Justice Kolawole held that it was the advertorial published by the government that jolted Delta State to approach the court with its claim of ownership of the money.
The judge, after analysing all the evidence produced by parties, held that Delta State failed woefully to discharge the burden of proof placed on it, as the claimant, under the Evidence Act.
He held that the state was under obligation to prove that the fund was removed from its treasury by tendering a report of its independent enquiry, revealing that $15m was taken from its treasury.
The judge held that it was not enough for the state to just provide a report indicating that $15 million was illegally removed from its treasury; such report ought to be in the form of a criminal complaint against Ibori.
Justice Kolawole held that since the state had in 2007 frustrated efforts by the EFCC to probe the financial dealings of the state under Ibori, by suing the commission, it was unconvincing for Delta State to wake up in 2012 to claim that the money, which Ibori denied offering as bribe to EFCC officials, belongs to it (Delta State).
He held that Delta State and its officials’ stiff resistance of the efforts by the EFCC to carry out a probe of the Ibori regime implied acquiesce and collaboration on the part of the state in the stealing of its funds under Ibori.
The judge held that since the state could not prove that the money was stolen from its treasury, it was fallacious for Delta State to think that Ibori could not on his own raise $15 million to bribe EFCC officials to stop probing him.
To achieve this, the judge held that Delta State should have tendered a copy of Ibori’s asset declaration form to show his financial worth.
On the state’s argument that it delayed in coming forward to claim the money because of the pendency of some court cases in relation to the money, the judge held that such argument was untenable.
He held that if anything, the cases ought to present an appropriate platform for the state to present its case or seek order of preservation of the fund pending the determination of the cases.
Justice Kolawole held that had the claim by Delta State been made by an individual, he would have ordered the person’s arrest and prosecution for perverting the cause of justice.
He also held that had the current Delta State’s Attorney General, Charles Ajuya, who argued the case, was in office when the state sued EFCC to restrain it from investigating Ibori’s regime, he would have been subjected to some interrogation.
95 MEMBERS OF THE BOKO HARAM KILLED BY THE NIGERIAN ARMY YESTERDAY
Yesterday, the Nigerian Army killed more than 95 suspected members of the fundermentl Islamic sect, called boko haram in a fiercely organised air raid and combings of the entire village and corners of borno and yobe state
74 of the insurgents were killed in an air and ground assault in Borno and the remaining 21 in a clash with soldiers in Yobe.
The raid is the latest in the effort by the military to crush the four-year uprising by the fundamentalists.
“The operations, which involved a ground and aerial assault led to the destruction of the identified terrorists’ camps, killing 74 suspected militants,” area army spokesman,Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Dole, said of the Thursday raid in the Boko Haram’s stronghold.
The claim could not be independently confirmed.
The strike targeted Galangi and Lawanti villages in the Mainok Local Government area, not far from the state capital, Maiduguri, where Boko Haram was founded more than a decade ago.
It followed a Monday assault on Boko Haram camps in another part of Borno, which the military said left 37 Islamists dead.
The Yobe operation was sparked by the invasion of Damaturu, the state capital by the fundamentalists on Thursday.
They reportedly first attacked a military check point before moving into town.
A civilian was also killed in the attack
Spokesman for the Three Division Special Operation Battalion, Capt. Eli Lazarus, confirmed the operation, saying: “At about 5:30pm, Thursday, October 24, gunmen in large numbers suspected to be members of Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military checkpoint close to the NNPC mega station along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road. Troops of Three Division Special Operation Battalion had a fierce encounter with the terrorists in various parts of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, for several hours.
“21 of the insurgents were killed during the encounter while three of their vehicles were recovered. Other items recovered included 4 AK 47 rifles, 1FN rifle, 1 rocket propelled grenade, 1 rocket propelled grenade (RPG), 1 extra barrel of GPMG, several Improvised Explosive Devices and 709 rounds of assorted ammunition.
He was silent on the extent of damage.
However,it was gathered that the insurgents attacked and set fire on the mobile police base, the police Area Command, the state CID, all on the Gujba Road.
They also set some detainees free and made to attack the 234 Army Battalion on the Maiduguri Road.
Sources said they moved to the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital and carted away two brand new ambulances and huge quantity of drugs.
The streets of Damaturu were deserted yesterday with residents remaining indoors in compliance with the 24-hour curfew reimposed across the state on Thursday soon after the attack commenced, but the curfew has been reviewed to 4pm – 7am with effect from today.
All schools in the metropolis were shut down, while Jumat prayers were also not held on account of the curfew.
Military aircraft were seen hovering over the metropolis yesterday, apparently on the lookout for fleeing insurgents.
The military launched its offensive against Boko Haram more than four months ago and has claimed major successes.
But last month, President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the country’s top military leaders to redouble their efforts following a spate of brutal attacks blamed on the Islamists that killed hundreds of defenceless civilians, including scores of students.
Early on Thursday, Captain Lazarus had announced a review of the curfew.
The Three Division Special Operation Battalion Damaturu had reviewed the curfew time in Potiskum which was formerly between the hours of 10pm – 6:00 am to a new time frame, 9pm – 6:00 am.

THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE DFFENDS OKONJO IWEALA AGAIST ASUU'S LIBEL
Contrary to some recent media reports, the Federal government has not adopted a take-it-or-leave-it approach in its negotiations with ASUU. Rather, the approach is focused on positive engagement and achieving sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in the country. That is why President Goodluck Jonathan recently appealed to ASUU to respond to government’s positive steps by calling off its strike in the interest of suffering students and parents.
Despite this, for several days now, some elements in ASUU have been distributing pamphlets and flyers with abusive and inflammatory messages against the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in mosques and other places. This is taking academic unionism to a new low and infusing it with unnecessary politics. I am sure majority of ASUU members are not in support of this.
Special Adviser to the Coordinating Minister and Minister of Finance
ASUU ATTACHES A BOKO HARAM APPROACH TO ITS STRIKE ACTION ,FIGTHING THE MINISTER OF FINANCE WITH FLIERS
In a statement yesterday, Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, accused ASUU leaders of “distributing pamphlets and flyers with abusive and inflammatory messages against the Finance minister in mosques and other places”
