Identity theft is the fraudulent appropriation and use of someone’s identifying or personal data o document, as credit card or images, as described by dictionary.com
The recent rise in the use of social media these days has contributed a lot to identity theft, and has also acted as the right platform to defraud novice and innocent business and responsible people, as phoney images are used these days to strip of their belongings.
EFFECTS OF IDENTITY THEFT

THE EFFECT ON INDIVIDAUL :

The effect of identity theft to an individual, has not only bring emotional stress and mistrust between the victims and his colleague, has also contributed to stealing of away of huge some of money from big companies by hackers who usually pose as real owners to their victims.

EFEECT ON NATIONS:

The effect of identity theft can be seen in many nations, but one of the most prominent and fiercely battled , is that of Nigeria, as many international scholarships and internet money exchange services such as PAYPAL are hidden away from their reach, sometimes, totally depriving the country from being listed  at all, with the believe that they will ruin it with fraud and other unwholesome acts, not knowing that there are innocent ones  who really needs these services to become something in life.

This has been troubling many people as the identity thief has been getting away many times, defrauding people, and getting away with it, after many reports to Facebook to block the account, yet we still see the thief defrauding innocent people with a stolen identity of a beautiful young girl named NINA ALISIGWE , WHILE THE IDENTITY THIEF IS LARISA CLANSY A ON FACEBOOK.
Alisigwe Nina, is a student at the Imo state university owerri , Imo state Nigeria was just going through her Facebook page and had a friend insult her so many time , she ignored and lock the person, thinking it was just a stupid fellow trying to annoy her, not knowing that such an insult may last for a long time, not until her boyfriend called and told her that somebody has been defrauding people with her images, and this thief downloads this pictures, as soon as she uploads it on line, she has also given her friends and colleagues numbers that these fraudsters use in defrauding their victims, as to minimize the damage a little, yet, Facebook still allow such an account to exist.
